Plastic Surgery in China
Global Talk:
Plastic surgery is becoming increasingly popular, and controversial, here in China. According to statistics recently released by the South Korean embassy in Beijing, Chinese people account for 60 percent of their cosmetic surgery market. It has been reported that in 2011, China had the third largest market for cosmetic surgery with 2 million operations annually. And it's not just the ever-popular "double-eyelid" surgery anymore. Local media continues to wring their hands over the increasing numbers of college graduates who, to get a good job, do everything from nose jobs to leg-lengthening.
So, why is plastic surgery so popular in China? What types of people are choosing to go under the knife? And just how safe is really? These questions and more on this edition of Today where we explore plastic surgery in China.
